Signs You May Have a Mold Problem

Not sure if mold is the culprit? These common warning signs indicate it's time for a professional inspection.

Musty or Earthy Odors

A persistent musty smell — especially in basements, bathrooms, or closed-off rooms — is one of the most common indicators of hidden mold growth.

Unexplained Health Symptoms

Recurring sneezing, sore eyes, nasal congestion, headaches, or difficulty concentrating that improve when you leave the building may signal mold exposure.

Recent Water Damage

Leaks, flooding, or burst pipes create ideal conditions for mold growth within 24–48 hours. Even repaired damage can harbor hidden mold behind walls.

Discoloration or Staining

Dark spots, water stains, or discoloration on walls, ceilings, or floors can indicate mold growing beneath the surface where you can't see it.

High Humidity or Condensation

Persistent condensation on windows, pipes, or walls signals excess moisture — the primary fuel for mold growth in any property.

Buying or Selling a Home

A professional mold inspection before closing protects your investment. Discover hidden problems before they become expensive surprises.

How We Help You

After an in-person consultation, our team drafts a customized remediation protocol outlining treatment methods, materials, and pricing before work begins.

Insurance Claims

We help you navigate frustrating insurance claims processes to ensure your problem is resolved as quickly as possible.

Air Filtration & Cleaning

HEPA air filtration devices capture airborne spores and particles, ensuring contaminants are not transferred through the air during or after removal.

Remove & Treat

Contaminated materials are safely removed. All remaining surfaces are treated with antimicrobials as outlined in the remediation protocol.

Complete Reconstruction

We have the capabilities to complete a full reconstruction of the affected area to pre-damage condition. This includes things such as drywall, painting, tiling, etc.

Mold Inspection FAQs

Common questions about our inspection services, pricing, and what to expect from your results.

Which inspection service is right for me?

If you're buying or selling a home, notice conditions ideal for mold, or have had a recent water intrusion or flooding event, then the Full Inspection ($795) is our most comprehensive option. If you have no visible mold but suspect it may be present, an Air Quality Sampling ($300/2 samples) test analyzes the air you're breathing.

How many air samples do I need?

We recommend 1 sample for every living level of the property or for every 600–800 sq ft. An outdoor control sample is also recommended for comparison. Additional samples beyond what's included in your service can be added for $100 each.

Can I send photos instead of scheduling an inspection?

Unfortunately, no. While photos can help identify obvious areas of concern, mold can be hidden in walls, air, and other areas not visible in images. An in-person inspection with diagnostic tools is necessary for an accurate evaluation.

How long does it take to get lab results?

Air quality samples are sent to an independent laboratory for analysis. Results typically take 3–5 business days. We provide a full written report with clear findings and recommendations as soon as results are available.

What if mold is found during the inspection?

If remediation is needed, we provide a detailed estimate and protocol at no additional cost. MoldGone handles the full process from inspection to remediation to reconstruction — so you don't need to coordinate multiple contractors.

Do you offer weekend appointments?

Yes, we are available on Saturdays from 7am to 4pm. We return calls within 1 business day and fulfill appointments within 2 business days.

What areas do you service?

MoldGone serves the entire Washington D.C. metropolitan area, including Northern Virginia, and Montgomery, Howard, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Prince George's counties in Maryland.
